Agēsilāus, ī, m. (Ἀγησίλαος), I) Beiname des Pluto, Lenker od. Fürst der Völker, weil alle in sein Reich wandern u. unter seine Herrschaft kommen, Lact. 1, 11, 31 – II) König von Sparta, Sohn des spart. Königs Archidamus (aus der Familie der Prokliden), Überwinder des persischen Satrapen Tissaphernes am Paktolus in Asien (395 v. Chr.) u. später der Böotier, Athener u.a. Griechen bei Koronea in Böotien (394 v. Chr.), Nep. Ages. 1 sqq. Iustin. 6, 2, 4 sqq.
