agnātus (adgnātus), a, um, I) Partic. v. agnascor, w.s. – II) Subst., agnātus, ī, m. A) = επίγονος, ein nachgeborener Sohn, d.h. der zur Welt kommt, wenn bereits (durch Verwandtschaft, Adoption od. Testament) ein rechtmäßiger Erbe in der Familie vorhanden ist, im Plur. b. Tac. Germ. 19; hist. 5, 5. – B) der Zu- od. Angeborene, der durch Geburt od. Adoption Anverwandte von väterlicher Seite, der Agnat (vgl. Gaius inst. 1, 156; 3, 10. Isid. 9, 6, 1), oft (bes. im Plur.) b. Cic. u.a. – Die nächsten Agnaten (od. in Ermangelung von solchen die Gentilen) waren, wenn ein Familienvater ohne Testament starb od. ein Familienglied wahnsinnig wurde, die gesetzlich nächsten Vormünder (s. XII tabb. b. Cic. de inv. 2, 148 [wo Genet. Plur. agnatûm]); dah. mente est captus atque ad agnatos et gentiles deducendus (d.h. unter Vormundschaft der A.u.G. zu stellen), Varr. r.r. 1, 2, 8.
