Pherae, ārum, f. (Φεραί), I) Stadt in Messenien, am kleinen Flusse Neda, in der Nähe des jetzigen Kalamata, Nep. Con. 1, 1. – II) die bedeutendste Stadt in Thessalia pelasgiotis, Wohnsitz des Admetus, mit dem Hafen Pagasä, später vom Tyrannen Alexander (Alexander Pheraeus) unter grausamem Druck gehalten, j. Valestino, Cic. de div. 1, 53. Liv. 32, 13, 9. – Dav. Pheraeus, a, um (Φεραιος), zu Pherä (in Thessalien) gehörig, pheräisch, a) eig.: gens, ein grausames Geschlecht (wie des Tyr. Alexander), Ov.: Alexander Pheraeus, Cic. u. Nep., u. ders. bl. Pheraeus, Ov. (s. oben). – Plur. subst., Pheraeī, ōrum, m.
