Pylus u. Pylos, ī, f. (Πύλος), Name zweier Städte im Peloponnes, die eine in Messenien, Sitz des Neleus, j. der Hafen Alt-Navarino, Liv. 27, 30, 13. Mela 2, 3, 9 (2. § 52), die andere in Triphylia, einer südl. Landschaft von Elis, Wohnort des durch sein hohes Alter berühmten Nestor, dah. Nestorea, Sen. Herc. fur. 561 (565): u. (weil Nestor Sohn des Neleus) Nelea, Ov. met. 6, 418; vgl. Ov. her. 1, 63. – Dav. Pylius, a, um (Πυλιος), a) aus Pylos, pylisch, subst., der Pylier (oft von Nestor), Ov.: Plur. Pyliī, iōrum, m., die Einw. von Pylos, die Pylier, Mela. – b) poet. = nestorisch, dies, anni, Ov.: senecta, sehr hohes Alter, Mart.: u. so ultra Pyliam senectutem, Incert. (Eumen.) pan. Constant.
